- Single-family homes, townhouses, strata complexes and commercial buildings
Before and after
One roof, before and after
Before and after, joined in a single image.

In the 2021 census, 56.3% of Qualicum Beach residents were 65 or older, the highest share of any Canadian municipality with at least 5,000 people. Many people here have spent their lives looking after their own houses, painting, patching and fixing without calling anybody. Roof moss is the job worth handing off. A shingle slope under wet moss is slick underfoot at any age, and most of the work happens near the edge. You can keep an eye on the roof from the driveway and leave the ladder work to us.
We clear moss in the village, along the waterfront on Highway 19A, up through Eaglecrest and out to the lots near the Little Qualicum River.
If you would like a sense of the roof before you call, our asphalt shingle roofs page lists a few things to check from the ground, and roof moss removal explains what moss does to the shingles underneath it. The close look is our part.
How it works
How Booking Your Roof Works
Four steps, and only the first one needs anything from you. Describe the roof, approve the price, and stay on solid ground while we work.
Describe the roof
Two minutes on the phone or the form.
The address, how many storeys, the roofing material if you know it, and roughly how green it looks from the yard. Mention any big trees nearby.
Approve the price
Every quote is worked out for one roof.
Steepness, height, material, the depth of the moss and how we reach each slope set the figure. It is free, and you have it in hand before any work begins.
The moss comes off
Our crew handles the climbing.
Scrapers and brushes take the moss off the courses, a treatment goes on if it will help, and the bagged moss leaves in our truck. If washing is needed, it is a low-pressure soft wash; asphalt shingles and cedar shakes never see high pressure.
Hear what we saw
Nothing up there stays a mystery.
A curled tab, a split shake, bare patches where granules have gone, or flashing pulling loose: we tell you where it is, and the next step is up to you.
Done.
- You describe the roof.
- You approve a free quote.
- We clear the moss.
- The ladder stays in our truck, not your garage.
Want the green gone from your roof? Ask for a free quote and leave the climbing to our crew.
Low roofs, townhouse rows and strata buildings
Many houses in town are a single storey, and there are townhouse rows and strata complexes in and around the village. A low roof looks easy to step onto, which is exactly why people get hurt on one. On a strata building the roof is usually shared, and moss on one unit’s slope runs straight into the next. Council or the property manager generally books that work for the whole building; how we plan it is set out under commercial and strata roofs.

Big fir in the middle of town
The Heritage Forest, a few minutes’ walk from the village centre, holds Douglas fir that has stood for centuries, and residents raised much of the money to buy the land and protect it. Tall fir is part of the town well beyond that forest, and on many lots it stands close to the house. A big fir sheds needles in every month, not just in autumn. They slide down until a chimney, a valley or a skylight stops them, and the drift that builds there holds rain against the shingles long after the slope around it has dried. Moss takes hold in that damp bed first. Clearing the drifts is part of every roof demossing we do, and keeping them from building up between visits does more than most people expect. Whether a tree stays is your decision and an arborist’s, not ours.
Why choose us
Why choose us for moss removal in Qualicum Beach
Ground-level signs, explained
Tell us what you have noticed from the lawn, and once we have been up for a look we will tell you what it means for the roof.
Hands and brushes on the roof
Moss comes off shingles and shakes by hand. A low-pressure soft wash is our standard; higher pressure only for tasks that call for it, such as concrete walkways.
Steps and paths on the same visit
Shaded concrete steps and garden paths can be cleared on the roof visit, so the routes you walk are not left slick.
Insured, WCB, guaranteed
Insured and WCB-registered. If something is not right, we come back and make it right.
A job you can watch from the window
We start on the ground, walking the house and noting which slopes are worst. Then the moss comes off from the ridge down with scrapers and soft brushes. Our washing is a low-pressure soft wash, and shingles and shakes never see high pressure. What falls is bagged rather than left in your beds. Before we go, you hear what we cleared, which treatment went on, and anything we noticed on the flashing or vents.

Mossy steps and shaded walks
Under a hedge or a big fir, concrete steps and paths stay damp from fall to spring and grow a slippery film. Steps you use every day matter more than the roof. Driveway and sidewalk moss removal takes it back to bare concrete, with higher pressure only where a task calls for it.

Got questions?
Qualicum Beach moss removal FAQ
Our house sits close to the neighbours, with a narrow side yard. Can you still reach the roof?
Usually, yes. On the quote visit we look at where a ladder can stand on firm, level ground and reach the eave at a safe angle, and a narrow side yard often still has one good spot. If the best footing is on the neighbour's side of the line, we ask you to check with them first. No ladder goes on a neighbour's lot without their say-so, and where there is no safe spot at all, we tell you rather than force it.
Birds keep dropping lumps of moss on our deck. Should that worry us?
It is not a crisis, but it is a signal. Crows and other birds pull moss off roofs to get at the insects living underneath, and they only bother where the growth is thick. Each lump they toss leaves a bare patch, and sometimes takes loose granules with it. The fix is getting the moss off the roof, not chasing the birds. Once the cushions are gone, the birds lose interest.
Could we spray a moss product on the roof from the ground ourselves?
You can try, and on thin growth a store product will kill some of it if it reaches. From the lawn, though, the spray rarely covers the upper slope evenly, and the drift lands on the siding and the plants below. Dead moss also stays put until rain or a brush moves it, often down into the trough. Thick cushions need lifting off by hand first. Our moss treatment and prevention page covers what a treatment can and cannot do.
Can you deal with moss on window frames and skylights in the same visit?
Yes. Moss and green film creep along sills, into sliding window tracks and around the curb of a skylight, especially on the shaded side of the house. Mention it when you ask for a quote and we will look at it while we are there. The window moss removal page explains how we clean frames and weep holes without forcing water inside.
What do you need from us on the day?
Very little. Leave the side gates unlatched, keep pets inside, and move cars off the driveway if we are clearing it too. Point out anything fragile we should know about, such as a raised bed under the eave, a pond or sprinkler heads in the lawn. You do not need to stand outside while we work, and we find you before we leave.
